the 3d craze has come and gone but that doesn't mean there aren't new interesting 3d devices in the market to backup that claim we present you with the takee 1 3d "holographic smartphone" my name is josip an this is the balkangadgets.com video review of takee 1 it's hard not to be impressed with the look of takee 1 aluminium frame with chamfered edges and a big 5.5 inch screen clearly tell us that we're not looking at an ordinary low-end / mid-range smartphone although it's pretty big even for a 5.5" phone and slightly heavier than an average phone it's not necessarily a bad thing because the phone feels sturdy
volume buttons and power buttons are well made and have enough tactile feedback the backplate is made of plastic and sits firmly in the place it's opened by a mechanism that is activated with a button on top of the phone beneath the backplate we can find 2 sim slots, microsd slots, a removable battery and two speakers we're very pleased with the choice of materials and the design of the phone especially because it's something you don't see often in this price range good design is worthless if it's not backed up by solid hardware and takee 1 mostly delivers mediatek's 8-core processor clocked at 2.0 ghz and coupled with 2 gb of ram performed everyday tasks without a hitch
the phone comes with 32 gb of internal memory so you don't have to worry about running out of space too soon. but in case you do, you can always expand it with a microsd card. the 5.5" ips lcd fullhd (1080 x 1920) screen is in charge of making everything we do on the phone look good and it's doing a pretty good job colors are balanced and natural looking. the viewing angles are also very good definitely above average for this price range. screen brightness is the only thing that could use some improvement because it's a little dim even at max brightness we'll talk about the 3d part of the screen later in the review
the weakest part when it comes to hardware is, without a doubt, the battery which is only 2500 mah. for a device with a 5.5" screen that's maybe a little too small with normal usage it will last you until bedtime but if you're playing games and watching 3d content you'll have to charge it way sooner other things to note about hardware include the front air touch sensor, that is located near the home button and is used for gesture control in the built in 3d apps, and the lack of 4g connectivity unlike the chinese variant, our takee 1 came with the eu rom which is an almost stock version of android with a few manufacturer tweaks
unfortunately it's android 4.2.2. jellybean which is slightly ruining our mostly positive thoughts about this phone it is a very old version of android after all, and android received some significant updates since jelly bean the fact that it comes with a "mostly untouched" version of android slightly mends the situation. the os feels light and fast and there are no visible lags. the main story here are the built in 3d apps, and that's another place where there is a difference between the chinese and european rom the european rom comes with 3d video, 3d picture and holo show apps while the chinese one comes also with holo space, 3d games marker, 3d movies market etc. luckily those apps can be easily downloaded and you can find them in the link in the description below keep in mind that you won't be able to utilise some apps completely (like the 3d movies market) estar went one step further than htc or lg when it comes to 3d and have incorporated the eye-tracking technology
that means while waching 3d content the front camera is tracking your eye movement and is adjusting the picture accordingly the end result is that you don't have look at the screen completely directly like on older 3d phones and while takee 1 does allow some movement it's only enough to compensate for those "micro-movements" this technology is the reason why this phone is marketed as holographic, although this is nowhere near being that the 3d effect is great and this is, without a doubt, the best 3d you'll find on a smartphone objects, people, particles jump out of the screen and literally dance before your eyes especially in well directed videos. the built it in 3d picture and 3d video player support most standard 3d formats so you won't have problems with lack of quality content
all built in 3d apps work with estar's air touch technology which is basically gesture control for example - while watching videos you can fast forward, rewind, pause etc. just by moving your hand over the screen you can swipe pictures in the gallery and there are even some games that support air touch it's a gimmick, but estar obviusly hoped it would enhance the 3d experience the camera was also a pleasant surprise google's stock camera app comes with the phone but we would recommend installing some third-party apps like camera 360 - to obtain more control over shooting photos. with enough light the camera behaved good, and we were satisfied with the results most of the time but it sometimes tends to overexpose certain photos
indoor and artificial lighting is where it shows it's first bigger weaknesses the biggest one being long exposure times which sometimes causes blurry images if your hand is not very still low-light performance is bad, but the unusually strong single led flash sometimes saves the day a picture tells a thousand words so you are welcome to download sample images from the description below you can record video up to 1080p resolution. daytime videos looks good although the night ones aren't completely terrible too although we suggest you avoid those situations if you can because of noise recorded audio is slightly underwhelming - it sounds thin and is not loud enough we were mostly satisfied with the 5 megapixel front facing camera
don't expect miracles - it's good enough for videocalls and decent selfies this smartphone is being sold for 210 € in bosnia and herzegovina (129€ in some eu countries) and we adjusted our expectations accordingly what takee 1 offers for that amount of money is something that you rarely see a big fullhd screen, an 8-core cpu, 2 gb of ram, huge 32 gb of internal storage and other specs that we're used to seeing in upper mid-range and high-end phones times are changing, and a new age of affordable smartphones is coming, and takee is leading the charge with a few other notable chinese manufactures takee's 3d abilities are just icing on the cake, and something no other phone (worth mentioning) has. old android os version and a small battery probably mean that power users will steer clear form this phone but then again how many phones from this price range do you know that are regularly updated or run the latest version of android?
the ones who can overlook those two shortcomings will probably be very satisfied with what this smartphone has to offer.
